A career expert commented on the ban of smartphones in schools across Kazakhstan.

Expert No. 1 on the future of work and careers, author of the global bestseller "New Rules of Work," Gary Bolles, addressed the question of whether gadgets should be banned for children during the educational festival Nobel Fest, as reported by correspondent Kazpravda.kz

According to the speaker, there is currently no unified approach to this issue. At the same time, he suggests questioning the purpose of gadgets for young people. The expert reminded that we are aware of both the advantages and disadvantages of technology.

“So why not ask young people to solve the problem themselves? For instance, when to use smartphones and when not to use them. Otherwise, it seems we are going 'top-down,' like in a command-and-control system: allowing and prohibiting. Let the youth come up with their own rules and understand the difference between the pros and cons of a given technology, whether it's a smartphone, a neural network, or other systems, and recognize that difference. I believe this would be better,” he said.

Additionally, the speaker clarified that he does not want parents to control their children.

“They should learn how modern technologies work to understand how to manage and use them. Parents should focus on helping their children learn to find solutions to problems using neural networks: identifying issues at home or in schools, thus developing critical thinking skills, and then coming up with ideas on how to solve them,” believes Gary Bolles.

The speaker added that parents should not become experts for their children, nor should children rely on pre-existing tools. According to him, in 10 years, AI will become as normal for all of us as the Internet, and we will no longer discuss what we are discussing today.
