He emerged victorious in the competition against two other candidates for the position. Initially, six individuals vied for this presidential role, three of whom – Nargis Magau, David Loria, and Yerlan Jamantaev – withdrew early from the race for various reasons.
In the end, Altai Daumov, Yerbol Kairov, and Marat Omarov remained.
The 36-year-old Marat Omarov is a graduate of the "Bolashak" program. He has experience working in government agencies and national companies. In 2022, he became the deputy chairman of the Agency for the Protection and Development of Competition of the Republic of Kazakhstan, and later took the lead of the agency.
