Decentralization of powers: The budget for 8 districts in Almaty has increased sixfold since 2022, reaching 293.6 billion tenge.

According to the city's mayor, the decentralization of powers to the district level, carried out in April 2023, has enhanced the efficiency of operations and accountability of district akims in addressing the most pressing issues and concerns of residents.

The akimat of Almaty reminded that the decentralization of public administration was implemented in 2023. As of April 1, 2023, in the first phase, 15 functions were transferred from the city to the district level: ongoing road repairs, construction and modernization of engineering networks, support for socially vulnerable populations, per capita funding for additional and preschool education, among others.

As noted by the city akimat, this move has significantly improved the efficiency of district akimats and expedited the resolution of important issues for residents through the delegation of powers and increased accountability.
