Employees at seven Amazon.com Inc. distribution centers left work early on Thursday and initiated a strike. The Amazon Teamsters union describes this as the largest in the company's history. This information was reported by Interfax-Kazakhstan.
The protest actions, which the union had previously announced on its website, involve workers from centers in major cities such as New York, Atlanta, and San Francisco.
Amazon Teamsters is advocating for improved working conditions for Amazon employees and is calling on the company to engage in negotiations.
According to the union's claims, it represents the interests of 7,000 Amazon workers, which accounts for less than 1% of the total workforce in the U.S. The number of Amazon distribution centers in the States exceeds 600.
Amazon representatives stated that the strike will not affect delivery times during the busy pre-holiday period, as reported by CNN.
