The President of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, expressed condolences to the President of Germany, Frank-Walter Steinmeier, regarding the numerous human casualties resulting from the tragic incident at the Christmas market in Magdeburg, as reported by the Akorda press service.
"Sharing in the sorrow of this irreplaceable loss with the friendly people of Germany, on behalf of the people of Kazakhstan and personally, I extend my heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims. I wish a swift recovery to all those injured," the telegram states.
The number of fatalities from the attack on the Christmas market in Magdeburg has risen to five, with among the victims being a small child, as reported by Spiegel citing security services, according to rbc.ru. Officially, German authorities have confirmed two deaths — an adult and a child. Bild, referencing local police data, reported four deceased individuals and over 200 injured: 41 are in serious condition, while another 86 have been hospitalized with moderate injuries, and 78 have sustained minor injuries.
