Almaty will allocate over 70 billion tenge to support an additional 2,000 new small and medium-sized business projects.

The primary driver of economic diversification in Almaty is the development of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).

“Today, more than 85% of the total workforce in the city is employed in this sector, which amounts to approximately 942,000 Almaty residents,” said the city’s head.

In 2024, 53.1 billion tenge will be allocated from the budget to support 1,800 new projects in SMEs, with a planned allocation of 71 billion tenge for 2025, which will enable the support of an additional 2,000 new SME projects.

“Our goal is to increase the contribution of small and medium-sized businesses to the city’s economy from 60% in 2024 to 75% by 2030,” noted Yerbolat Dosaev.
