A new Minister of National Economy has been appointed in Kazakhstan.

In accordance with the decree of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Serik Zhumangarin has been appointed as the Deputy Prime Minister – Minister of National Economy.

“To appoint Zhumangarin Serik Makashevich as Deputy Prime Minister – Minister of National Economy of the Republic of Kazakhstan, relieving him of his previous position,” the document states.

In February of this year, Serik Zhumangarin was reappointed to the position of Deputy Prime Minister.

Serik Zhumangarin was born on July 22, 1969, in Aktobe. He received higher education at the Moscow Lenin Order and October Revolution Energy Institute, as well as at the Buketov Kazakh State University.

Throughout various stages of his career, Serik Zhumangarin worked in the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade, serving as the director of the Department of Regional Policy and Interbudgetary Relations. He has also held positions as the Chairman of the Committee for Regional Development, Vice Minister, and Deputy Minister of Regional Development of Kazakhstan.

From 2014 to 2017, Zhumangarin headed the Committee for the Regulation of Natural Monopolies and Protection of Competition under the Ministry of National Economy. In September 2020, he became the Chairman of the Agency for Protection and Development of Competition.

In September 2022, Serik Zhumangarin was appointed as Deputy Prime Minister – Minister of Trade and Integration. However, a year later, on September 2, 2023, he was relieved of his duties as Minister of Trade and Integration, while remaining in his role as Deputy Prime Minister.

Prior to this, the President relieved Nurlan Baibazarov of his position as Deputy Prime Minister – Minister of National Economy.
